Pollinator Week – Butterfly Release

We can’t think of a better way to conclude this “Fluttertastic” week of celebrating our pollinators, than with a release of our favorite pollinator: the butterfly.   Join us as we send several different species out to carry on their important work.  (Weather permitting.)

Bee Buzz – Summer Nature Camp

This camp will run daily from June 27 - July 1.Daily Camp Hours: 8:30 am - 2:30 pm.Drop off 8:00-8:30 am | Pick up: 12:30-3:00 pm. The campers will be busy as bees this week as we focus on honeybees, native bees, and other pollinators.  We will look at their habitats and learn how a hive works.  Campers will become the hive and learn to function and communicate as the bees do.  In addition to crafts and outdoor activities, every child will get an opportunity to release a butterfly during the camp week.  Every child will get an opportunity to release a butterfly by the final day of camp. CFC Butterfly Garden Maintenance

The Florida Aquarium, Tampa Bay Butterfly Foundation and FWC's Suncoast Youth Conservation Center are looking for volunteers to assist with habitat maintenance at Center for Conservation site of the Florida Conservation and Technology Center in Apollo Beach (529 Estuary Shore Lane) as well as their Adopt a Road site along Dickman Road. Star Spangled Bugs – Summer Nature Camp

This camp will run daily from July 5 - 8.Daily Camp Hours: 8:30 am - 2:30 pm.Drop off 8:00-8:30 am | Pick up: 2:30-3:00 pm. Did you know that we have bugs to thank for our country’s independence?  The ink used to sign the Declaration of Independence was made from bugs!  This week, campers will learn about red, white, and blue bugs, ecology, and the relationship of organisms to one another.  We will talk about pollinators in space.  Campers will discover what they would need to survive in their own “Spaceship Earth”.   As always, we will learn the importance of our pollinators AND butterflies in their ecosystem.  Every child will get an opportunity to release a butterfly by the final day of camp (weather permitting). Creatures Treehouse – Summer Nature Camp

This camp will run daily from July 11 - 15.Daily Camp Hours: 8:30 am - 2:30 pm.Drop off 8:00-8:30 am | Pick up: 2:30-3:00 pm. An oak tree is more than a shady picnic spot, or a great place for a tire swing.  The mighty oak is its own ecosystem.  Did you know that one oak can be home to 500 butterflies and moths!?! This week focuses on the importance of trees, and the birds and pollinators that call them home.  Campers will make a birdfeeder as one of the fun crafts and activities planned for the week.  Every child will get an opportunity to release a butterfly by the end of the camp week (weather permitting).  If you think the camp is full and/or are having trouble registering, please email: [email protected]

Silly Snakes! – Summer Nature Camp

This camp will run daily from July 18 - 22.Daily Camp Hours: 8:30 am - 2:30 pm.Drop off 8:00-8:30 am | Pick up: 2:30-3:00 pm. Sssssslither and ssssslide into the habitat this week as we learn about water, and land snakes in the Tampa Bay Area.  Campers will learn how to identify them, where they live, their benefits and what they eat. We’ll have lots of silly snake visitors this week, too! We will study native bugs, and pollinators, and why they are so important to us. Campers will learn the important role bees have in food production. Get ready for some fun as we search for native bugs, build a ladybug habitat, and conduct cool experiments! This camp will run daily August 8 & 9.Daily Camp Hours: 8:30 am - 2:30 pm.Drop off 8:00-8:30 am | Pick up: 2:30-3:00 pm. Looking for one last blast before school starts?  This is the 2-day camp for you.  Get ready to leap into the new school year, as we focus on lizards, and other reptiles. Campers will get to meet our reptile ambassadors and will create a moving caterpillar out of paper.  We will also talk about butterflies in their ecosystem.  Every child will get an opportunity to release a butterfly by the final day of camp (weather permitting).
