Childcare of Brandon Field Trip

Anita Camacho was invited to provide an important supplement to a native plant program Sunken Gardens held on July 1. HGTV’s Curb Appeal host John Gidding highlighted his book, At Home with Nature: A Guide to Sustainable, Natural Landscaping.  Little Red Wagon Native Nursery showcased its native plants and provided informational resources for attendees.

Tampa Audubon, working with USF’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, hosted a class called “Natural Hillsborough” at the Lettuce Lake Nature Park’s Joel Jackson Nature Center.  Anita Camacho was invited to be a guest speaker; a presentation on “Gardening for Butterflies” was followed by a Q&A session.

Eagle Scout Planting Project

Little Red Wagon Native Nursery, together with Tampa Bay Butterfly Foundation, proudly supported Eagle Scout Kyle Imhoff with his native plantings at Edward Medard Conservation Park. Kyle led and coordinated the entire project which included leading the team to build 8 planters and get all of the plants in the ground. The project was conceived as he noticed cars parking under the trees, instead of parking spots and destroying the root systems of the oak trees.

In keeping with the Great American Teach-In, Anita Camacho, was a guest speaker at McFarlane Elementary's Garden Club.  To finish off a busy day at school, children enjoyed time in the garden after learning about butterflies, types of plants that they are attracted to and how their habitats are beneficial for the environment. Native flowering plants were donated for the kids to plant in the garden. The children had a great time and learned a lot!

Community Outreach – Alexander Elementary

In support of National Hispanic Heritage month, as part of community outreach, the Tampa Bay Butterfly Foundation held a competition at Alexander Elementary school to award two students a scholarship to Little Red Wagon's “Thankful for Nature” camp in November.  Kindergarten to 5th grade students were asked to create a picture or write a paragraph describing why they are thankful for nature.  The competition was held to help celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15 – October 15.
